Dot Accountancy is me, Tam Young. With 25 years of experience in finance, I began my career in the fast-paced world of investment banking in the City of London at the turn of the millennium. After a decade, I returned home to Cornwall, settling in Falmouth, where I retrained as an accountant.
As a parent to two boys, I also understand firsthand the challenge of balancing home life with running a business. I know how important that balance is, and just how hard it can be to achieve—which is why I always aim to make working with Dot Accountancy as stress-free and supportive as possible.
About me
Building relationships first
When you work with Dot Accountancy, you work directly with me. I take the time to truly understand you and your business, ensuring a personal and thorough approach. I’ll be the one completing your accounts and the person you speak with, so you always have a familiar and trusted point of contact. I believe that building this close relationship means nothing is overlooked, allowing me to provide the best possible support for you and your business.
I’m passionate about helping businesses grow and succeed, and I want to be on that journey with you. I love my job—it's more than just work to me. I'm constantly thinking about my clients and how they can maximize tax savings or improve their businesses. I probably spend too much time on LinkedIn, but the upside is that I stay well informed on the latest accountancy legislation, software, and business trends.
I also love connecting people. When I think two clients could work well together, I always try to help them connect—and I’ve done this many times over the years!
The importance of being chartered
Dot Accountancy Limited and Tam Young are proud to be regulated by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), a respected professional body. I have a degree in Mathematics and went on to study for another three years to achieve my ACCA qualification. I also had to have at least three years of practice experience (I actually have over 10), ensuring I have both the knowledge and hands-on expertise to support businesses with confidence and care. This qualification demonstrates a high level of professional competence, ethical integrity, and commitment to ongoing development in the accounting field. Unfortunately, anyone can call themselves an accountant, but to be Chartered Certified you have to be a member of the ACCA.
Making a difference
When I set up Dot, I knew I wanted to not only make a difference to my clients, but also to help with the lack of tree cover in my home county of Cornwall.
So, I’ve teamed up with Plant One Cornwall. For every corporation tax return I file, five square metres of Cornish woodland will be planted. For every personal tax return, 2.5 square metres will be created.
So by working with me not only will your business thrive but you will also be helping new woodlands grow.
An accountant that feels like one of us
“As a creative B-Corp business, it was important for us to work with an accountant who felt like one of 'us' - something we'd never found up until now! Tam is exactly that and has been an invaluable part of our journey. She brings a deep understanding of the numbers and explains everything clearly, making even the most complex financial matters feel manageable. Tam’s guidance makes us feel truly supported. We’re incredibly grateful for her dedication, knowledge, and the reassurance she brings to our business.”
