Sectors I work with
I specialise in working with small owner-managed businesses and particularly like clients based near me in Cornwall but as I work digitally, my clients are spread throughout the UK. Read on to find out more about the specialist sectors I cover.
Small owner-managed businesses
I love working with owner managed businesses. I like to really get to know you and your business. I will be almost as passionate about your business success as you are! I know that this is more than just a job to you and as such I will always give you 100% to make sure you’re getting the best advice and support possible. You can expect practical guidance, honest conversations, and a genuine interest in helping your business grow and thrive.
Start-ups
When starting out, it’s essential to engage with an accountant as early as possible. This ensures you get the right advice on the best structure for your business from the outset. With over 10 years of experience working with startups, I understand the challenges new business owners face and explain everything in clear, straightforward language—without unnecessary accounting jargon.
In our first meeting, I’ll ask plenty of questions to get a deep understanding of how your business will operate, how much (or little) you want to use technology, and what your ambitions are. This allows me to create a tailored plan covering everything you need—not just from an accounting perspective, but also practical guidance such as choosing the right bank account and software solutions.
I’ve also shared my expertise as a speaker for multiple cohorts of Falmouth University’s MSc Entrepreneurship course, helping students navigate the financial side of setting up and running a business.
Creative industry
I have been working with creative agencies and businesses in the creative sector for over 10 years, and I love it, partly because I know I can make a real difference. I understand that numbers and finance can often feel overwhelming or misunderstood in these industries, so I take pride in explaining complex concepts in clear, simple language. Too many of my clients have told me their previous accountants assumed they understood all the jargon. I make sure you fully grasp your accounts, and if something doesn’t make sense, I’ll explain it in a different way until it does!
Having worked closely with creative businesses, I’m all too familiar with the challenges you face—especially the boom-and-bust nature of project-based work and the sleepless nights spent worrying about cash flow. I’ve helped many clients set up and manage cash flow forecasts that have been invaluable in making informed, timely decisions and keeping their businesses on track.
As well as working with agencies, artists, writers, and those in film, I also support a number of interior designers. I have a solid understanding of the industry, being married to one has definitely helped! Interior designers often have unique accounting needs, especially when it comes to the significant spend on procurement. I can help you make the most of this expenditure, ensuring it works to your financial advantage.
Chiropractors
I have worked with many chiropractors throughout my accounting career, from individual associates to large, established practices. With extensive experience in the industry, I understand how chiropractic businesses operate and the individual financial needs of their business.
I have helped structure new clinics, guided clients through the sale of their practices, and even valued chiropractic clinics in the past. This is a field I’m truly enthusiastic about, and I know I can add real value to my chiropractic clients—not just with accounting and tax advice, but also with practical recommendations, such as the best software for running and setting up a clinic. I find get satisfaction in witnessing a newly graduated chiropractor progress through their career journey—from associate to clinic owner and eventually to a multi-practice owner.
Retailers
I work with a wide range of retailers, whether you're online, on the high street, or a bit of both.
An important aspect of being a retailer is making sure your sales systems talk to your accounts system (like Xero) the right way. I’ve integrated plenty of point-of-sale (POS) systems for shops, as well as online marketplaces like Etsy, Amazon, and more, to flow smoothly into Xero.
I’ve also helped businesses set up and integrate different inventory management systems, making sure your cost of sales is accurate, and your stock figures add up properly.
